I live in Las Vegas...
and know 4 people who are very experienced older people in a number of different industries, and all of them are having the darndest time in securing employment, and all of which were laid off. The primary problem that they are facing is that they are viewed as exponentially overqualified and more than a definite potential flight risks, should greener pastures presents itself. I've been told that a few of them have lost out to younger hires because they took the job at a lower than advertised rate of pay

Yes, that is the big question...
How low can I go? In 2003 I was laid off as a mid level IT Manager making $75k yrly. After that, all I could get was contracts paying only $18 an hour. Now, I'm looking at contracts worth only $12 an hour. I won't go any lower than that. For right now. As I get closer to the end on my UI... who knows. I might have to settle for a bowl of rice or some camel meat

I hear ya and feel your pain...
Sadly, the *Shit Storm* that's been spoken about over the last 2 years has yet to hit it's true peak yet, or so a lot of analysts have been stating. While things are generally getting better, this employment lag will continue for a year or two, creating havoc for a of the middle class and low income people

What kind of IT mgr?
Hiya LP. What type of IT? I'm curious because I'm trying to learn some new tricks and have about a week to decide if I should sign up for and IT class that I can't afford. Thanks!</FONT

For me, now, no it's not...
But there is nothing to say that I couldn't lose my job in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of next year
